Shaving Cream Math

1/29/2013

Today in Math, we used shaving cream to write out the problems. It was a little messy but it was still fun. We wiped the shaving cream on our desks. Then we solved the problems and Ms. Lucas checked our answers. We learned about algebra and how to solve the problems.

Today, in our 7th grade class, we were with Ms.Lucas' sister Ms.Lucas she was nice and very helpful and answered all our questions. When we finished correcting Simple Solutions she gave us a Terra Nova practice packet which we worked on in our groups. We worked on the packets and when some of the groups were done we went on the computer, or we worked on Simple Solutions. For some people she let go on the computer and take turns using them to play math games. We had free-time to do homework, read, or talk. After, the class was done we told Ms.Lucas bye and that we would see her tomorrow.

Today in my 6th grade art class we continued doing our spider sewing projects. It was kind of like a mix between math and art. The project was fun, but hard to do. We had to concentrate using the needle. Everyone is doing great on their art project. Also, everyone is using different color thread, which makes each project unique. Below is a picture of my finished project. Have a great day!!!!!!

Today in school we learned tons of facts about almost everything! We also had lots of fun with friends that are like family. In science, we listened to our classmates because they were practicing presenting their science fair projects. In math, we learned how to translate equations similar to: 128 is what percent of 640? It was harder for some people but Ms. Lucas just kept explaining it and doing examples until we understood. Here is a Percent Video that explains how to find percentages. In reading, we proofread a little article about Isaac Newton, read a story and then was asked questions about the story. In English, we learned a little bit more about pronouns. In history, we looked at maps to memorize them for a big test on Friday. That’s all that happened, bye!

Today in 6th grade science class we drew plant and animal cells, then put them on a wall and pretended we were in an Art Museum. It was really fun because we got to explain our pictures. For example, I got to explain the cell wall and mitochondria of the plant cell that a friend and I drew. Also, we got to look at the animal cell drawing that two of my classmates drew. They did an amazing job, and they even made the animal cell look 3-D! Also, the cells all looked different in color, shape, and size! So no two cells were alike. I wonder if REAL plant cells are blue....hmm.....

Today was an epic day because it was our Junior High Math teacher’s birthday. She turned twenty-six years old. It was so fun. It was a surprise party but she already knew. She knew because a party is thrown every year. But she acted as if she was surprised and did not know.  There were cookies, cupcakes, and brownies to eat.

Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally

Today in my 6th grade math class we learned about the Order Of Operations.A saying to remember it, is please excuse my dear Aunt Sally. Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally stands for parentheses(   ), exponents, multiplication and division (left to right) addition and subtraction (left to right). Look at the video from the link it really helped me out. School Tube Video

If there were no order of operations we would have the same problem but not the same answer. Ms. Lucas really helped me learn how to do the order of operations. Keep working on your order of operations!

Welcome!
